À propos de James

As a seasoned software, technical, solution & domain architect, I bring over three decades of extensive experience in designing strategic software and solution architectures that solve complex, real-world challenges. My career spans diverse sectors including aerospace, aviation, automotive, maritime, government, and finance, reflecting a proven ability to deliver high-value digital transformations on a global scale.

Currently leading architectural strategies for Siemens' Xcelerator Marketplace, I have championed modular, event-driven, and microservice architectures, supporting the broader Siemens Xcelerator vision of an open digital business platform. My role involves promoting headless architectures and enforcing robust interface standards to create systems that are modular, scalable, and prepared to evolve with technological advancements.

My passion lies not only in the technology itself but in fostering collaborative environments, bridging business objectives with architectural innovation, and mentoring teams to achieve technical excellence. Colleagues recognise me for my pragmatism, strategic insight, and ability to effectively manage and communicate with diverse stakeholders, translating complex technical landscapes into clear, actionable strategies.

Driven by innovation, I've also actively pursued entrepreneurial opportunities, including leading the Pegasus Heavy Lunar Logistics Lander concept through Siemens’ Startup School program, demonstrating my capability to innovate and communicate visionary solutions successfully.

As I continue my journey, I'm dedicated to pioneering initiatives that align with my vision for digitalisation, sustainability, and the emerging opportunities within industries like aerospace and the Cislunar economy. I'm eager to connect with fellow innovators and industry leaders to explore new possibilities, share insights, and contribute to the wider digital transformation movement we are collectively shaping.

Project Leader - Siemens Startup School
    octobre 2024 - mai 2025 (7 mois)
Project Lead for the Pegasus Heavy Lunar Logistics Lander concept - an innovative startup concept providing payload delivery services to the lunar surface, initially serving payload developers that are developing critical lunar infrastructure solutions.

Please note - This startup idea is not a Siemens project but was an idea that I have been developing in my own time over the last 4 to 5 years. Siemens Startup School organisers believed it was innovative enough to be part of their selection criteria.

As part of the startup school program I successfully led the team through the various phases of the program from Customer Discovery, Validation and through to Solution, culminating in a successful pitch to the Next47 investment analysts.
The program was hugely beneficial, and very well organised allowing the team to further refine the concept and focus more on customer needs as well as being able to explain, present the various opportunities in a clear & concise manner.

Designed and led the architectural strategy for the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace, a curated digital platform that enables customers, partners, and developers to discover, try, and procure interoperable software, services, and solutions within Siemens’ industrial ecosystem. Xcelerator is central to Siemens' open digital business platform, supporting digital transformation across industries by accelerating integration and innovation.

    Key contributions:
    • Led the architecture transition to a headless, modular platform that supports scalable UI/UX innovation across web and partner channels.
    • Promoted the use of a microservices and Packaged Business Capabilities (PBC) framework to ensure scalability, maintainability, and separation of concerns.
    • Designed and enforced strong interface contracts (APIs) to support decoupling between frontend, backend, and third-party ecosystems.
    • Integrated Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) patterns for real-time responsiveness, loose coupling, extensibility & scalability.
    • Collaborated with Enterprise architecture & Siemens Business Unit & global partners to align architecture with business goals and industry interoperability standards.

This work supports Siemens’ broader Xcelerator strategy an open digital business platform that combines a comprehensive portfolio of digital twin–enabled hardware and software, a growing ecosystem of partners, and a flexible marketplace.

    AÉRONAUTIQUE & AÉROSPATIALE
    octobre 2019 - août 2022 (2 ans et 10 mois)
    Toulouse, France
As the lead API Solution Architect in the API Enablement Team - I was responsible for promoting the use of APIs within the Airbus Group to better integrate systems and provide a solid foundation for the digital enterprise within Airbus. I worked with project teams to help onboard them onto our platform offering architectural assistance and support during the lifetime of their project.

During my time at Airbus I was responsible for:
    • Defining the API Governance Principles that underpin best practices around producing APIs and treating them as first class citizens (API as a Product) within the Airbus Digital landscape.
    • Championing cloud first architecture & the importance of moving away from legacy batch driven process & encouraging the adoption of event driven & real / near real time architectures
    • Working with the Enterprise Architecture team to define the standards & patterns for data & service interoperability within Airbus pushing forward the concept of a distributed Data Mesh, as well as the ‘Real Time Enterprise’
    • Organising & facilitating workshops on Microservice & Event Driven Architectures
    • Mentoring colleagues looking to take on more of an Architectural role

I had the pleasure of working with many outstanding colleagues working on a variety of exciting domains & projects ranging from Flight Physics, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Engineering, Manufacturing, AirSpace Link, Skywise, DDMS & Industry 4.0 topics.
